Several arrested for drunk driving in Mossel Bay

More than nine motorists were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol in Mossel Bay this past weekend.

They were arrested during  a collaborative effort between the municipality’s traffic department, the provincial traffic department and the police.

Portfolio chairperson of community safety at the municipality, Leon van Dyk, says there are more road accidents resulting in damage to municipal infrastructure, injuries and fatalities than ever before.

He says this is a concern and therefore the municipality and its partners are clamping down on those who do not abide by the law.

Van Dyk has warned that the municipality’s Booze Bus, where drivers’ blood alcohol levels are tested, will be utilised more frequently.
